An Analytical Method for Parallelization of Recursive Functions

چکیده
Programming with parallel skeletons is an attractive framework because it encourages programmers to develop e cient and portable parallel programs. However, extracting parallelism from sequential speci cations and constructing e cient parallel programs using the skeletons are still di cult tasks. In this paper, we propose an analytical approach to transforming recursive functions on general recursive data structures into compositions of parallel skeletons. Using static slicing, we have de ned a classi cation of subexpressions based on their data-parallelism. Then, skeleton-based parallel programs are generated from the classi cation. To extend the scope of parallelization, we have adopted more general parallel skeletons which do not require the associativity of argument functions. In this way, our analytical method can parallelize recursive functions with complex data ows.

متن کاملAutomatic Parallelization of Recursive Functions with Rewriting Rules
Functional programming languages have, since their early days, being thought as the holy grail of parallelism. And, in fact, the absence of race conditions, coupled with algorithmic skeletons such as map and reduce, have given developers the opportunity to write many different techniques aimed at the automatic parallelization of programs. However, there are many functional programs that are sti...
متن کاملAIOSC: Analytical Integer Word-length Optimization based on System Characteristics for Recursive Fixed-point LTI Systems
The integer word-length optimization known as range analysis (RA) of the fixed-point designs is a challenging problem in high level synthesis and optimization of linear-time-invariant (LTI) systems. The analysis has significant effects on the resource usage, accuracy and efficiency of the final implementation, as well as the optimization time. Conventional methods in recursive LTI systems suffe...
متن کاملImprovement and parallelization of Snort network intrusion detection mechanism using graphics processing unit
Nowadays, Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) are widely used to provide full security on computer networks. IDS are categorized into two primary types, including signature-based systems and anomaly-based systems. The former is more commonly used than the latter due to its lower error rate. The core of a signature-based IDS is the pattern matching. This process is inherently a computatio...
متن کاملAn Algebraic Framework for Parallelizing Recurrence in Functional Programming
The main challenge faced by automatic parallelization tools in functional languages is the fact that parallelism is often hidden under the syntax of complex recursive functions. In this paper, we propose an algebraic framework for parallelizing – automatically – two special classes of recursive functions. We show that these classes are comprehensive enough to include several well-known instance...
